Samsung used to have a very straightforward method of accessing download or recovery mode, but following the release of the Galaxy Note 10 series, the company chose to abandon the Bixby button.

What is Download mode?

Download mode, commonly known as Odin mode, is a mode that is exclusively available on SAMSUNG devices. It’s a condition that lets you use Odin or other desktop applications to update the firmware. With the aid of their PC, Samsung users may flash stock firmware, modem, bootloader, pit files, and occasionally root package files or custom recovery files. Odin3 is a tool that users can use for this purpose. As a result, this mode is also known as Odin3.

All you have to do to utilize the download mode or flash files with the aid of your PC is boot into the download mode, connect your Samsung device to your PC, then run Odin3 to flash the required file.

How to Boot into Download Mode?

To access the download mode on your Samsung Note 10 or above phone hit the following button combination:

  • First of all turn off your device.
  • Hold Volume up + Volume down when plugging in your computer.

And for smartphones previous to the Note 10 series, i.e. the Galaxy S-series, which has a dedicated Bixby button:

  • Press and hold the Bixby + Power + Vol Down buttons
  • And for Samsung devices that have the dedicated home button:
  • You need to press the Power + Volume Down + Home buttons.
  • However, if you wish to enter the download mode using ADB commands then you need to type adb reboot bootloader to get your Galaxy phone booted into the download mode.

What is Recovery mode?

You may use the button combination or the ADB instructions to enter Recovery mode on your Samsung phone. In recovery mode, you can do things like a factory reset the phone, run a graphical test, clean the cache sector, and so on. You may also use the recovery mode to flash firmware files, backup your data, and restore your system files.

How to boot into recovery mode?

  • Turn off your device
  • Turn the device on by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home Button + Power Key.
  • You should see the Recovery interface now.
  • For some devices, turn off completely, now turn on your device by pressing and holding Volume Up + Power Key.
  • When you see the Galaxy logo, stop pressing the keys, and wait for the device to display the recovery mode.

And if you want to enter the recovery mode using the ADB commands then,

  • You need to enter the command adb reboot recovery
