A laptop design with a rollable display and keyboard is patented by LG. OPPO announced OPPO X 2021 as the world’s first working prototype of a rollable smartphone a few days ago. The company disclosed only minute specifics of this device and did not say whether the shelves would ever be reached. On the other hand, LG has already announced that it is launching such a phone to the public next year. A concept for a rollable laptop was patented in advance by the South Korean electronics giant.
LG has yet to introduce a foldable smartphone, but other interesting devices have been launched. First and foremost, LG is the only company to market a rollable smart TV called LG Signature OLED TV R commercially. It is also the only brand in the world to sell a sleek LG Wing-shaped smartphone with a swivel monitor.

Although the company has announced next year that it will launch a rollable smartphone, it also seems to have plans for a laptop with the same technology. Since it has filed a patent for the same concept. Root MyGalaxy first published this LG patent, but the publication doesn’t say much about when this patent was filed and at which office.

The monitor in this laptop can be unrolled from 13.3-inch up to 17-inch, according to the diagrams. That’s not everything, even the keyboard can be rolled inside the monitor drum with a touchpad. So the notebook looks like a soundbar when it’s absolutely rolled up.
So what use cases are there for this design? The only thing we can think of is that bags would take up less space. But since flexible technology is fragile, perfecting it will take time.
Therefore in the immediate future, we will not see LG launching a rollable laptop. Having said that, Lenovo offers a foldable laptop called ThinkPad X1 Fold if you do want a futuristic device, which for now is limited to some regions.
